It may help you to know what are the advantages of LCM as compared to the usual examining body and what we have found to be some of the reasons why many overseas colleges are now wishing to become Centres, Recognised for the provision of LCM courses.

  1. Range of Courses

LCM offers a wide range of courses from which to select. We do not know of any examining body in similar study areas that has as many career courses already operative or ready (fully documented - excluding textbooks) for being provided by potential Centres. This enables Centres to offer more courses to their student market.

  2. Assessments

We consult with Centre's key staff, as student assessment is conducted by LCM, which makes a Centre's staff feel more confident that the examining body knows what it is doing, lecturers are being listened to and students are being treated fairly.

Most other examining bodies set and mark exam papers and the Centre’s lecturers may not know (often the case) exactly how papers are being marked or passes determined. Thus, while LCM’s average pass rate is circa 70% (as opposed to many examining bodies that may be as low as 20% to 30%) there is no loss in educational standards.

  3. Helping your Centre’s management

Each Centre is provided with a Moderators Report on each subject examination that has taken place at the particular Centre. The result is the Centre’s management can manage better and lecturers know where they went right or wrong.

  4. Exclusivity

We do not offer exclusivity for regions - for several good reasons - but we do limit the amount of Recognised Centres offering the same course in a town or region to ensure that each Recognised Centre enjoys good numbers of students.

  5. Examination times

Examinations are set four times each year in March, June, September and December, so an overseas Centre can start courses at convenient times and re-sits/re-takes can be taken within three months.

  6. Integrating Courses and subjects

Most courses that are related, such as business courses, have several common core, essential subjects. This is also the case with LCM’s courses, thereby enabling subjects common to different courses to be taught in the same class(es). Thus, the cost of providing a group of courses is significantly reduced, more courses can be offered, less classrooms are used and your Centre enjoys improved income and higher student numbers.

  7. BAC Accreditation

The London Centre of Management is a division of Cavendish College, London. Cavendish College has been inspected and recognised as efficient by the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education (BAC). You will find the Cavendish College entry in the BAC Accredited Colleges leaflet under the Business and Professional Education and Training section, at your local British Council Office. In 1998 LCM also was inspected independently for its distributed learning services and its services were approved by BAC.

  8. Experienced support staff

The examining body, being part of a teaching college -:

    (a) appreciates the internal and promotional problems of other colleges (the Centres),
    (b) experts in many subjects are at the London College often enabling overseas Centres to obtain instant access to an expert who may be able to assist them with any particular lecturing problems they may have,
    (c) students have the opportunity to continue on to one of many colleges within the David Game College Group (which Cavendish/LCM is a part), and, subject to the LCM course a student studies, students may continue their studies towards a British university degree qualification,
    (d) when visiting the UK, principals of Centres find it easy to visit the College as it is so central to London,
    (e) LCM charges to students at Centres are low for the amount of subjects included in each course,
    (f) Educational establishments who do not currently provide courses in business and management are provided with advice and guidelines so that the Centre has the knowledge and confidence to supply LCM courses.

  9. Other Languages

Subject to student numbers and charges, LCM is able to set examinations in other major languages for several of its courses.

  10. Charges

There is no charge for your Centre becoming Recognised for the provision of selected LCM courses, the application process is quickly completed and your students only pay for assessment.

I hope the above points help you to appreciate the distinct advantages of LCM that potential Centres find attractive.
